Turkey is a fascinating blend of the ancient and the modern, surrounded by water on three sides with a coastline of 5000 miles. The southwest corner of this coastline is easily one of the most beautiful in the world. Turkey enjoys a variety of climates, ranging from the temperate climate of the interior to the Mediterranean climate of the southern coastal Regions.

The seas surrounding Turkey are the Black, Aegean, and the Mediterranean seas. Over the many thousands of years of her developing history, then Turkish coast has become a treasure chest of coves, inlets, bays, and beaches from which sailors can choose a different and always private anchorage each night.

Sailing the Turkish conjures up her history of a journey that carries you to the private beach of Cleopatra, the eternal fires of Mt Olympus, and the myriad archeological remains of ancient civilizations. For lovers of the active life, sailing in clear waters provides great opportunities for swimming, fishing, surfing and snorkeling.

Sailing in Turkey also allows you to experience a truly enriching cultural exchange with the hospitable and gracious people of the coastal villages and towns. The tempered winds that generally blow from the west and northwest make the long summers ideal for sailing. And seem to encourage an appreciation of nature.

The population of Turkey is about 65 million roughly half of that number lives in cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir. The population is mostly Muslim, but as a secular state. Non-Muslims are accepted freely. English is spoken in the resort towns of Kusadasi, Bodrum, Marmaris, and Antalya.

Turkey's monetary unit is the Turkish Lira, although the US Dollar is widely accepted. Traveler's checks and major credit cards are also accepted at the larger business establishments.

With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts offer superb conditions for sailing with steady west & northwest winds. Summery temperatures ranging from 70 to 95 and water temperatures ranging from 65 to 82 last from March to November.

In the words of one of our charterers, "We are back home with many fond memories of the people and sailing experiences in Turkey".
