Once used by local
fisherman and sponge divers, the Turkish Gulet design is a gracious
and elegant motor sailer, built of wood in traditional style
and now designed for charter holidays. These gulets offer excellent
comfortable, and spacious accommodations, and lots of space for
sunbathing, dinning, and just relaxing as you sail with the great
companionship of your crew mates and the gulet's crew. The broad
beamy hull provides deck space unavailable in boats of the same
size. The foredeck is broad and normally covered with cushions.
Side decks are wide and secure passageways for people of all
ages, even children and the elderly. The aftdeck contains the
huge outdoor cockpit with cushioned spaces for dinning and relaxing.
Gulets range from 50 to 100 ft and accommodate from 4 to 16 people
in spacious double and triple cabins. Usually each cabin has
its own shower and toilet facilities. Although gulets are rigged
as sailboats, they generally make use of engine power since the
daily points of destinations are close. Whenever there is a favorable
wind, however, the sails are set and the pleasures of soft Mediterranean
breeze are to be enjoyed.
