Selecting
Your Albatross Yacht
There are many types and sizes of yachts
from which to choose. They fall mainly into the following
three categories for your charter options:
Bareboat:
This type of charter includes sailboats that typically have an
overall length of 28 ft. to approximately 60 ft. These sail boats
can be chartered without a hired skipper or can be hired with
a skipper. If you and at least one of your crewmates have sailing
licenses or certifications, or can provide references of sailing
proficiency to skipper your own boat of the size you plan to
charter, you can be your own skipper. You should consider hiring
a skipper for your charter if either you do not have the experience
yourself or if you want to sail the boat but not take on the
responsiblitiy of the charter. One reason very experienced captains
take on a skipper is the local knowledge of the sailing conditions
as well as the knowledge of the best places to see along your
sailing itinerary. The choice is yours.
Motor Sailing
Yachts:
These are sailing yachts with a full permanent crew. They are
classed as Luxury Yachts because they have superior interior
and exterior appointments and they are very spacious as compared
to even 60 ft. bareboats. Motor Sailing yachts begin in the 60
ft. LOA and are available up to 190 ft, accommodating up to 48
people. Sailing yachts are motor driven and also have a full
compliment of sails.
Motor Yachts:
Motor yachts are strictly Motor Sailers and do not have any sails.
They have the advantage of sailing at speeds ranging from 17
to 28 knots, enabling them to cover greater distances in the
space of the limited charter time you may have available.
Other Aspects to Consider
When Selecting a Yacht
Size of Yacht:
You must first decide on the number of people who will be accompanying
you, for this determines the sleeping quarters required. Each
of the Albatross yachts shown in our yacht selection pages, list
in length of the boat and how many people it accommodates in
addition to some other important considerations. Size is also
related to the waters you intend to travel. Larger yachts are
better equipped for open, rougher, unprotected waters. Personal
comfort is a factor for many people, particularly on longer trips.
As a rule, bigger yachts offer more living space and smoother
sailing.
Purpose of Charter:
Yachts can be chartered for various purposes, get away sailing
vacation, business outings, incentives, conveyances, filming
and research. How you plan to use your boat should influence
the type and size you choose.
Time and Distance:
How much time do you wish to spend sailing and how much time
touring the sites and just relaxing? This will help determine
your itinerary and the time you will want to charter. Sailing
yachts may be more advantageous for island hopping and exploring
hidden coves. Generally we recommend that you plan to sail 4
hours a day to allow enough time to visit the many wonderful
sights that there are to see.
Cost:
It is wise to set a budget for your charter. This will help guide
you along realistic lines. Costs are directly related to the
length of time you will be using our boat, the size of the boat
and the degree of luxury desired by you and your guests, the
provisions and fuel required, and the size of the crew. Use the
price list as a guide to the costs and be sure to ask for all
other costs that you may be asked to pay. Remember, a bargain
price boat may not be the best boat for you.
Our Fleet - How
We Select the Boats
and Approval
Besides the yachts Albatross owns, there are a large number of
yachts under Albatross management. All yachts are checked thoroughly
before the start of the season and a certificate of approval
is issued, when the yacht meets the standards set by Albatross. |
